Safe Opening Cost in Las Vegas (2026)

Real numbers. Service call, hourly rates, drilling cost, repair cost, and exactly what drives the bill up or down.

The short answer

A typical residential safe opening in Las Vegas costs $80–$220 plus a $150 service call (waived on jobs over $250). Most jobs finish in 30–90 minutes. High-security, commercial, and vault work is quoted on inspection and typically runs higher.

How pricing actually works

We bill on a fixed-quote model, not by the hour. Here\'s the breakdown:

  • Service call ($150): covers travel to your location and on-site diagnostic. Waived if total job exceeds $250.
  • Method-based opening fee: manipulation, scoping, autodialer, dial reading — each has a quoted range based on lock type and difficulty.
  • Drilling (optional, owner-authorized): $$200–$$500 above standard, depending on safe complexity.
  • Repair after drilling: plug, refinish, lock service — quoted separately, in writing, before the work.
  • Parts (if needed): replacement cylinders, keypads, locks — at our cost plus reasonable markup.

What drives the price up

  • Safe rating: TL-15 / TL-30 / TRTL-30x6 safes are harder, take longer, and cost more.
  • Antique safes: 1900s–1950s Mosler, Diebold, Hall require specialty knowledge.
  • Damaged locks: someone else attempted to open the safe and triggered a relocker.
  • Vault doors: bank or commercial vault work is its own pricing tier.
  • Probate / chain of custody: additional documentation requirements add hourly overhead.

What keeps the price low

  • Known make and model: we research-prep before arrival.
  • Cooperative lock: Group-2 mechanical with intact wheel pack often opens in under 45 minutes via manipulation.
  • Bundled service: safe opening + lock service + rekey + smart-lock retrofit on one visit reduces per-task overhead.
  • Non-destructive success: no drilling means no repair, no parts.

What competitors charge (and why we don\'t price-match)

Some Vegas locksmiths advertise $$19 or $$29 lockout fees. Those numbers don\'t cover safe work — they\'re lockout-only baits. By the time a phone-quoted $$29 opener arrives, the actual quote becomes $$300+ once they see the safe. We post the real number up front. If you find a legitimate, licensed Vegas safe locksmith with lower transparent pricing, take their quote — but verify the LVMPD permit first.

Free quote vs. on-site quote

For straightforward residential safes, we can give a probable range over the phone. For commercial, vault, or antique work, we require on-site inspection before quoting. We don\'t charge for the inspection visit.

FAQ

How much does it cost to open a safe in Las Vegas?

Typical residential safe opening in Las Vegas runs $80–$220 plus a $150 service call (waived on jobs over $250). High-security and commercial safes cost more. Vault doors and TL-rated burglary safes are quoted on inspection.

What's included in the service call?

The $150 service call covers travel to your location and on-site diagnostic. If the safe opens within the diagnostic visit (sometimes manipulation succeeds in the first 20 minutes), the service call may be your total cost.

Does drilling cost more?

Yes. Drilling typically adds $200–$500 to the base service depending on the safe's complexity. Repair after drilling (plugging, refinishing, lock service) is quoted separately, in writing, before any drilling begins.

Are there weekend or holiday surcharges?

No. Our standard rates apply seven days a week, 9 AM–9 PM (Monday closes at 8 PM). The only exception is out-of-area travel (Boulder City, Pahrump, Mesquite) which carries a travel surcharge disclosed when scheduling.
