House Lockout in Las Vegas

House lockout is one of our most common Vegas Valley calls — keys lost, locked inside, broken in the cylinder, or simply the door slammed shut as the wind caught it. Armor Lock & Safe responds across 38 Vegas-area cities, typically arriving in 20–35 minutes from our Spring Valley headquarters. Most residential lockouts open non-destructively in under 15 minutes using lock picking, bumping, or sash-cord retrieval. Drilling the cylinder is a last resort and only with the homeowner's verified authorization. Below: how the work runs, what it costs, and what to do while you wait for us to arrive.

How we perform house lockout

Every job follows a methodology hierarchy — non-destructive first, drilling or replacement only when needed. We default to preservation over destruction.

1

Single-pin picking

Standard residential pin-tumbler locks open via single-pin manipulation in 2–15 minutes. Non-destructive — the lock and key remain functional.

Success: ~85% of residential cylinders Time: 2–15 min
2

Bump key

On older or builder-grade cylinders without anti-bump pins, a bump key opens in under 60 seconds. Non-destructive.

Success: ~70% on 1990s/2000s builder-grade Time: <5 min
3

Sash-cord puller

When the door has a manual deadbolt thumbturn but the door is closed, a sash-cord puller through the door gap can flip the thumbturn from outside.

Success: Door + frame condition dependent Time: 3–10 min
4

Card / shim bypass

On non-deadbolted spring-latch locks, a flexible shim can retract the latch. Door must not be dead-bolted.

Success: Spring-latch only Time: 1–5 min
5

Controlled drilling

Last resort when the cylinder is jammed, broken, or anti-pick. We drill the cylinder, replace it, and rekey to a fresh key.

Success: 100% as fallback Time: 15–30 min + parts

What happens when we arrive

A house lockout call starts with phone intake — what neighborhood, what kind of lock, and confirmation that the customer is the homeowner or tenant. We dispatch from Spring Valley. On arrival the technician verifies ownership: government-issued ID with the address on it, or a recent utility bill. Most residential entries open in 2–15 minutes using single-pin picking. The technician opens the door, you enter, the lock is verified working with your existing key (if available). If the cylinder needs to be drilled — broken key inside, anti-pick cylinder, or jammed mechanism — we drill, replace the cylinder, and rekey to a fresh key. Total time on-site averages 15–30 minutes for routine lockouts, up to 60 minutes if drilling and rekey are needed.

How long house lockout takes

Typical: 15–30 min for non-destructive; up to 60 min if drilling + rekey

Factors that change time on-site:

Insider tips before you call

Things we wish every Vegas customer knew. Following these saves time, money, and avoids damage.

Before we arrive, find your ID and a utility bill or lease showing the address — verification is mandatory.

If you can see the broken-off key tip in the keyhole, photograph it for us. Speeds up extraction.

After any lost-key lockout, REKEY. Anyone who finds your lost keys still has access until you rekey.

Smart locks (Schlage Encode, Yale Assure 2) typically have a physical key backup — check the bottom edge of the lock body.

If a previous locksmith drilled your lock and never replaced it, the cylinder is anti-pick (rare) or simply old — we can rebuild.
